iPhone Stopping the Mail app from downloading emails

Hi all,

I've tried everything to stop my mail app from downloading email messages when they arrive.

I've been in Settings / Passwords & Accounts and turned 'Fetch New Data' off, and I've also gone into the menu and turned off Push. I've also tried setting each account to Manual but still I'm getting emails.

Is there anyway to stop the mail app looking for email, except when I open the app. I only want it to do it when I open the app, not do anything in the background.
