Storage bug on "About this Mac" page when using Boot Camp

Hi,

I recently installed Windows 10 using Boot Camp on my mid-2012 MBP, setting aside 100 GB for Windows and the remaining 400 GB for my Mac (I've only used about a quarter of my HD in the four years I've had this Mac, so storage has never been a concern).

I've noticed the "About this Mac" page has been reporting much higher (and frankly, contradictory) reports on the amount of space I am using on my OS X partition. As you can see in the info page for my internal HD, the information under "About this Mac" is very inaccurate. Is it possible to fix this inconsistency?

The totals match, so you are okay there. Those categories are a complete mess particularly in Yosemite and El Capitan. You can reindex Spotlight by running the command below in Terminal and it will fix it, but it usually drifts off again. It can take a half hour or so for the reindex to complete.

sudo mdutil -E /
