I have been storing my macbook pro retina 13 (2014) in a ziplock bag for about 3 months, to protect it from dust while I am away. Someone told me that static electricity may build up inside the laptop and may damage some components.

I know that if I put components like Graphic Card, RAM, CPU and other internal computer parts in a ziplock bag, these components can be damaged by static electricity, these components should be stored in anti static bags.

But in my case these components are mounted inside the macbook, is that also dangerous?

I have been storing some external hard drives and many usb flash drives in ziplock bags for years (+some silica gels), will that be any potential problem if I keep doing it? I want to keep my backup storage devices safe as well.

Any feedback and suggestion would be appreciated, thank you :)

There should be no problem.
Unless you somehow manage to get condensation inside the bag :)

If desiccant is not available in sufficient quantity, you could supplement it with uncooked rice in cheesecloth. The rice is not an ideal solution but I believe it is better than nothing.

Thank you all for your feedback and suggestions, fortunately I always put silica gels inside the plastic, and change them regularly (every 2-3 months). How about the static electricity issue? Could I say that as long as the computer components are mounted inside the laptop, the static electricity won't damage any of these components?

Thanks a lot.
