Straight Talk / Data Toggle/ 3G Voice

Greetings:

If I want to experience higher voice quality with 3G on Straight Talk (using AT&T's network), do I need to have the "data toggle" enabled during the call? Or does the 3G voice quality remain on regardless of the toggle?
