Straightforward unlocking 3GS question HELP thx!

I always get confused by the firmware, bootrom, etc. in this thread so I figuered I should just ask.

I'm using an UNLOCKED iphone 2G on T-Mo for now.

A friend of mine is going to sell me his 3GS so he can upgrade to iPhone4.

He is all up to date on AT&T with iOS4 and everything just like he should be all updated.

When will I be able to unlock the 3GS for use on T-Mo? Is it already possible or do I have to wait for the redsnOw update?

There is no hurry at all I just want to be sure it will be possible! Thanks!

You should be able to jb and unlock a 3GS on 4.0 soon.
I'd say go ahead and get it.

My friend, who I'm buying a 3GS from has updated his phone yesterday with 4.0 for use on AT&T, not jailbroken, never been jailbroken or unlocked.

I am wanting to unlock for use on T-Mobile

Pwnage Tool 4.0 will not work on this correct?

I have to wait for the update of redsnOw to be able to jailbreak and unlock the 3GS correct?

pwnagetool 4 won't work if the 3gs has the new iboot. You may however jailbreak it at 3.1.3 and unlock it with the ultrasnow

So I have 3.1.3, new iboot, and jailbroke with Spirit, so basically I'm pretty much screwed and won't be able to upgrade to 4.0 and jailbreak, right?

yup you're screwed for now, wait for another method to jailbreak to come out.
