I have noticed my mac has a large number of phantom disk images. They both appear in Disk Utility and from the command line. Although I can eject them. After a reboot, within a few hours they will come back. Running the system for a few days can easily accumulate to 150-200 of them. They all appear to be exacty 314.6 MB( 314,572,800 byes). Has any one here experienced such a phenomenon?

Solved!

It turned out that there was a rogue alias in the .profile. Every time the system spawned a shell it created a ram:// disk via hdiutil.

what a disappointment, not badbios after all!
