I've got a 17" MBP i7 500MB 7200rpm and it's been doing something weird lately. Every once in a while (like once every day or two) I'll hear the hard drive accelerate and then a little beep. It's like an old style PC beep tone except much shorter and quieter. I tried looking around on the apple forums and google but it's hard finding hits for something you can't quite pin down. Anyone have something like this going on?
Also, I don't have the option enabled to park the hard drive with inactivity. It's also happened when plugged in or not plugged in. It only started doing this about 2 weeks ago. I regularly run DiskKeeper so there's no weird HFS+ thing happening and SMART (as smart as it is...) says all is OK.
I would take it to Apple but without being able to reproduce it or adequately describe it, I just don't see them doing anything.
