As you can see in the image below, there is space above the password entry field. I'm using a 2018 15" MacBook Pro w/16GB of RAM and 250GB (roughly) SSD.
  1. What is this?
  2. Can I remove it?
  3. Can I change it to display something I want, like custom text?
In a related question: are there ways to show system information on the login screen or desktop, such as free space, system stats, etc.? I know this might not seem particularly useful to everybody, but I like being warned about issues like free space on the SSD and having that on the login would be handy.

I'm not asking for someone to provide a full solution, just an answer of what to do if I wanted to display a string of text on the login screen or even the user selection screen before that. I'll take that and decide how to get the text I want, be it from a scripting language or some other tool.

Thanks in advance for your help and consideration -

Christopher

You can easily display text on the lock screen. You can set the lock screen to show information like IP address and computer name up where the clock shows, but information about the disk won't show there.
