I never really questioned it, but now, after a year, I do.
After a reinstall of OSX, I have some strange folders in my /-directory.
I'll list it here with the first three files or folders in the directory.
/bin
...[
...bash
...cat
/cores
...(empty)
/etc (alias to somewhere)
...6to4.conf
...afpovertcp.cfg
...aliases.db
/opt
.../local
......./bin
.........daemondo
.........port
.........portf (alias)
....../etc
........./macports
............/macports.conf
............mp_version
............sources
....../include
.........(empty)
/sbin
...autodiskmount
...clri
...disklabel
/sw
.../bin
......822-date
......apt-cache
......apt-cdrom
.../etc
....../alternatives
....../apt
....../dpkg
/tmp (another alias)
...amt3.log
...com.hp.launchport
.../launch-7nTDoo (folder, access has been denied, even as an admin)
/var (again, an alias)
.../agentx
.../amavis
.../at
/Volumes
.../Macintosh HD (alias, returns to /-directory)

I would leave it alone for the while being, but all in total takes up some space and it annoys me. Could I safely delete all things or make it hidden by placing a dot before each folder, without any errors?

Thanks for reading.

Which ones do you consider strange? They seem standard to me.

Do not delete or rename any of these!

These files are all part of OSx's *nix heritage. do not go around deleting files and folders unless you really know *nix and what you are doing. Simply removing the files and folders is likely to lead to an unbootable system.
