Strange Finder Behaviour

So the first thing I noticed was that my Time Machine drive was taking noticeably longer to mount and dismount. Now I also noticed whenever I copy a file, the estimated time is some insane amount like 3 hours, then the bar fills normally but finishes at about 3/4 of the way instead of filling completely. Now whenever I open a folder by double clicking on it, the window opens and maximises to fill the screen. I don't recall changing any settings or preferences, does anyone know what's going on here? To which extend have you filled the hard-drive? Most files ystems perform rather poorly on near filled drives.

I just verified the disk with disk utility, and it still has 97GB left.
