Hello,

My iMac has two user accounts. When I am on my user account, a strange folder and icon pops up. It is labeled with the other user's name; and it has a red minus sign on it.

What is this folder, and how do I get rid of the - sign.

Shared Folder that you DO NOT have access to. Login to the other User and go to System Preferences > Sharing > File Sharing

Okay, it's gone. However....

I don't think I understand this file sharing thing. How can I share files from both accounts.

I went to System Preferences>Sharing>File Sharing>and gave myself read and write access.

Now what can I do? Where do I start sharing and how?

It's BAAACK....

Update: The original icon is back on my desktop! I can't open it!

When you're logged into the account that has access to the folder, right-click on the folder and 'get info'. Try checking 'shared folder' and deselecting 'locked'. Do that for all sub folders if you have to. The folder should be deletable now.

It changed!

I followed your advice and it became a MobileMe Disk image!

This is so strange, and annoying!:(

Must be iDisk sharing from the other account. It would be a good way to exchange files between users. Jump into System Preferences MobileMe and see if iDisk is ON.

It won't let me eject it. It says it is busy and I should quit all apps. However, it is gone now. How long? Who knows?

I am back to where I began.

I now have the same folder on my desktop, with no access, and no ability to throw it away.

I guess it will just be there forever.

I hate to sound hard, or paranoid but pasting the images above and what you've said we all now know one of you admin accounts and that it is also the name of your mobile me account and presumably apple ID/iTunes too.

Given the concerns some have raised regarding Mobile-me security, perhaps replace the images with the name blurred out.
