I got an iPhone 4s in Oct. No problems... until a few nights ago. There was, apparently, a strange power outage in our city. Power around areas around my home went off for a few seconds... in some areas, cable TV came back with the power... other areas, cable TV was off for hours. Since no power outage at my home, I didn't know anything happened. But, my iPhone stopped working on 3G. The signal bars were normal, the 3G icon was on, but couldn't connect anywhere, couldn't even make a phone call. Search the internet... did the "reset network settings", even restored to factory defaults.
On my iPhone that night, a single, or sometimes, a second connection to 3G, would work... and then 3G would be "blocked". That is, I would reset network settings, make a phone call, then cannot make any successive calls. Same with SMS messages. The 1st mesasge works, then subsequent messages fail.
Resigned myself to go the Apple store the next day... reset network settings so that I can receive at least the 1st message or phone call, then went to sleep.
Next day, went to work, and everything worked fine. Found out about the power problem the night before. The only thing I could think of was that this "smart antenna" on the iPhone 4S, or the AT&T network, had my phone number "stuck" with the combination of cell towers near my home. When I went to work, I was in a different combination of cell towers, and everything got "reset". I didn't do anything when I got to work... just everything on 3G started working again.
I don't know if it's related to the "smart antenna" (switching stuff) or the AT&T cell tower combinations... but it really was weird. No problems ever since... everything is just fine.
Any comments, ideas? (maybe this helps someone too)
