I got a free 4gb iPod Nano with the recent purchase of my iMac. It came with a dock that looks like it's missing a part, and I can't figure out how to use it.

This isn't my picture, and obviously it doesn't have the the USB cable tied and taped, but this is what the dock looks like. Has anyone seen this thing? Is this normal?
 
That isn't a dock.

That is an adapter for use a 3rd party dock or 3rd party speakers.

You don't get a dock included when you buy an iPod.
 
Unfortunately you don't get a dock with the current iPods, just the insert (except the Shuffle but it doesn't use the standard dock connector).

As well as third party accessories, the insert works with Apple's dock and the Apple Hi-Fi
