Basically I have just got my ancient 867mhz powerbook back and installed a brand new hdd installed leopard and software updated everything. I have set up my main itunes library on the machine to use via home sharing to my macbook pro and other macs in the house.

I have the itunes library on a WD drive connected via USB - the powerbook only has USB 1. When playing music straight off the powerbook itunes stutters however when I connect to the library from my macbook pro over my home network via home sharing the audio is fine and doesn't stutters.

This leads me to think that it isn't the USB 1 being the problem as it is reading the audio fine over the network and is a software issue??

Any help would be much appreciated.

Many thanks.

Hmm. What if you ran Activity Monitor on the Powerbook to see what the CPU load is under both scenarios? Perhaps listening to MP3s is maxing out your CPU.
