Strange line on display

Can anyone tell me if this is a software problem, the line only appears on the display image. I have just bought the macbook so i dont know much history sorry

That would be an issue with either the display panel or the display cable, most likely. Not software, sorry.

What happens if you change the Desktop image?

[EDIT] Nevermind. I see that it appears with two different Desktop images. Hard to imagine that it's hardware related if it's not present in open windows.

What happens if you create a new account? Same issue there?
