Hello,
if I turn my rMBP 15" with Mavericks on, I can hear a strange noise coming from the area around the hinge. It sounds like a "hiss" and it's pretty quiet.
It's directly after you push the start button.
Could you please check if you can hear the same sound ? Thnx

Its the fan. My mac mini does this, too. Right after startup.

That was my guess.. Could anyone with a MacBook Pro Retina please check it ? I want to know if it's a defect or not since I have only 2 days remaining to give it back

My rmbp doesnt make that sound...
My mac mini sometimes does and then it immediatly crashes. Error mesage comes.
I restart and everthing is fine.
It really sounds like the fan.

My advice: go to the store and try to switch on and off the rmbps there.
If yours makes a much louder noise Id strongly consider exchanging it.

But: dont overanalyze. Even the slick new macs are not completely silent.
When mine goes heavy duty on rendering the cpu goes to almost 90Celsius and the fans run realy loud.
It gets so hot that i have to put something under it because its uncomfortable.
Thats normal.

Mein Tipp: Hol dir eine Versicherung von einem Elektromarkt.
Dann weisst du, dass sie dir das macbook immer ersetzen. Auch Jahre später und wenns runterfällt.

Je parles francais, l'anglais et l'allemande.

German was for the better understanding because i dont think they have insurances like in germany in other places.
The have "apple care" which is nice but doesnt cover much.

Either the noise was there from the beginning or it appeared after I've uninstalled Adobe Flash Player.
But honestly I don't think it's possible that I got the same issue(?) on two Retina MacBook Pros 15"... How likely is this ?

The fans start up when you start the computer. That's likely what you're hearing.
