Hi guys, so, the superdrive in my G5 (I'm a poet and I didn't know it lol)... it works fine, it burns DVDs etc no problem BUT... every time I turn on the computer it ejects the tray? When OSX loads I can press the eject button/F12 to put it back in

So what's up with that? Anyone got any ideas?

Tray eject upon boot can be triggered by holding the mouse button down.

Boot without a mouse connected. What happens?

Could not being able to recalibrate be related?

Well... it would seem that the drive itself is faulty. I've put the SONY one in from the other machine and it doesn't do this

That's a strange thing to go wrong isn't it!

I've been computing for a long time and I cannot remember ever hearing that a failing CD/DVD wold eject upon power up with a problem, but I am glad you found the problem.

Come to think of it, my 1.8GHz G5 has trouble mounting recorded DVDs. I think it, too, is failing.

Best thing about powermac parts is that they are sooo cheap. Heck, it's almost as cheap to just buy an entire new powermac.
