So i have a mid 2010 macbook running 10.6.8 and im trying to update it to el capitan. i continuously get a could not be verified message with no fixes working. Whats strange is that when i connect to data hot spotted from my tablets account it works just fine. tho i only have 2 gigs a month so the second i hit the cap, it switches back to my normal internet, which is very fast might i add, and then instantly gets an error and stops working. Does this seem strange to anyone else and has anyone else experienced this? would love some help on the matter thanks.

How are you trying to update it?
What method are you using?

The best way would be to create a bootable USB flash drive of the El Cap installer, boot the MacBook from it, and install that way.

You would probably want to erase the internal drive first with the installer's version of disk utility (although this might not be necessary, you could try an install "over the existing OS" first and that might work fine.
