strange question: iPod's headphones

I don't want to buy sony headphones, but I was thinking of getting the iPod one's for when I'm running. Right now I'm in college, and I have regular headphones but the braces end up getting all swetty after I use them several months since I am running so much, the are big ones over your ears. So even though I"m in college I need new headphones. I heard the iPod ones have a special sound, so I don't expect to have that with my Cd player, but I just want to check and see if they will work on a regular Cd player and not just iPods, please advise. I seem to remember that the iPod may have had a different type of metal that connects the phones to the iPod itself best -nathan
