I wonder if someone could help me with this one please?
I have a mid-2010 MacBook Pro running 10.6.8 with the very latest security patch installed.
I noticed that when using Spotlight to find email (not the search within the Mail application itself), it wasn't finding content in very recent emails.
I tried a partial rebuild of the Spotlight index which didn't help and then did a full rebuild. Following this, Spotlight now doesn't find any emails at all, apart from one in the Mail Download folder. I.e. Cmd+space, type kind:email, only that single email is listed.
The privacy pane in Spotlight Prefs only has my external hdd listed.
Here is the strange thing. If I use mdfind in terminal which I understand to use the Spotlight index, it finds all of my emails. Similarly, if I use the Spotlight search in Pathfinder or HoudahSpot, again I can find all emails. The only place emails aren't showing are in the Spotlight search.
I think there is some kind of problem with the /Library/Mail folder because if I copy a .emlx file from one of the mailboxes in there on to my desktop, instantly that email becomes available in Spotlight. Spotlight seems unable to show any emails in my Mail folder. I've checked the permissions on that folder plus the Mail Downloads folder (in which emails can be found) and they both appear to be the same.
Anyone have any ideas? It's not the end of the world because I can at least search for emails within the Mail app but after two years of using this approach to find anything on my Mac (a quick tap of Cmd+space), it's annoying that this is no longer working.
