I purchased my 13" Retina MacBook Pro in late '13 (right after the refresh). The computer's been excellent so far, definitely a huge improvement over my Mid 2010 15" MBP.

For the past several months I've noticed a strange issue. I have a discrepancy between what different programs report as far as my disk space is concerned.

As you can see, Disk Utility, the finder Info pane and Grand Perspective all report different numbers. I think Grand Perspective has the most accurate reading.

I've gone into recovery mode and used Disk Utility to verify and rebuild Macintosh HD, but I'm still having this strange issue. Any ideas?

I'm guessing you have Time Machine turned on? That creates local snapshots in a hidden folder and that amount is not included in Finder but is included in Disk Util, hence the issue you are seeing. Nothing to worry about. Give this a read.

If you turn Time Machine off then back on it will erase the local backups and you will see that space free'd up.

That explains it all. Thank you for sharing!
