So I moved into a new place and the landlord has wi-fi, which I'm more than happy to use. It's rated at 25mbps (wish it were faster but whatever), but I seem to have an issue.

It's really slow. Like REALLY slow. When I run speedtest on it, it ranges from 0.96mbps to just under 3mbps.

I never had issues in the past at my parents place, where it consistently hit the top end of our internet speeds.

For comparisons sake I also ran speedtest on my iPhone and iPad, and they seem to be within normal ranges (15-25mbps) at any given time on the wifi.

What gives?

Running a mid 2012 13" cMBP on Yosemite if that helps.

Hi,

you might try this :

- turn the MBP's wifi off
- in Keychains, type in "Airport" in the search field, and delete the entries related to this network.
- in System Preferences / Network / Wifi / Advanced / Wifi tab: select the network and delete it ("-" sign).

- restart the Mac
- turn its wifi on
- select the network, you will need to enter the password.
If you are no prompted to enter the password, you missed something in Keychains.
- once you are connected to the network, return to :
System Preferences / Network / Wifi / Advanced / Wifi tab
and drag the network to the very top of the list.
