I bought a refurb Macbook Pro three weeks ago. Almost every time I put it to sleep and wake it back up, there are strange wrinkle/shadow patterns tiling across the screen like this -

I spoke with an Apple rep on the phone who walked me thru some resets, but nothing changed. She gave me the number of a guy who lives an hour from me who's a official Apple repairman. But I'm about to leave the country for a month and can't meet him.

Any ideas how to diagnose this?

I would do a search here. I remember seeing many threads on this.

This is a well known problem with the MBP, it's not a software related problem, but rather a hardware problem. The backlight isn't lighting the screen properly. The only way to fix it is to have the screen replaced, and sometimes the replacement screen has the same problem.

Thanks guys. I searched a bit more and indeed what Dmac said is correct. Time for a visit to the Mac store, a one hour drive :(
