I'm a newbie here, and looking for some advice from people smarter than me.
Running an upgraded Mac Pro 5,1 to 12 core 3.33GHZ for Pro Tools, my audio software. Been using an un-flashed 5770 to drive my 40" Phillips 4065 4k monitor on DP, running at 2560x1440. Been working great.
Wanting to upgrade to a larger 65" TV to use as a 4k monitor, and did the research and got a nice Samsung that does 4:4:4. Got a Club 3D DP 1.2 ---> HDMI 2.0 adapter.
When using my 5770, I got no video through the DP-->HDMI 2.0 adapter. Nothing. Hooked up my MacVidCards Nvidia GTX780 (with external power supply), and instantly got picture, 4k @ 60hz. Looks great. Here's where it gets strange:
When using my GTX780 card (current Web driver or Apple), the time counter on my Audio software slows down everytime I use my mouse to do edits. My OS is Mavericks and I also tried a fresh install of Sierra. Still happening. So, why would a much underpowered card (5770) perform better with my audio software than a super fast flashed card (GTX780). Can't imagine I need a faster card, like a 970 for my limited use...right??
Any ideas?
Much appreciated,
- Kent
