Stranglers keyboard player, Dave Greenfield, dies of Covid-19, aged 71.

The superlative keyboard player from the punk era group, The Stranglers, - Dave Greenfield, the musician who gave that group their distinctive, unique, special and quite legendary keyboard sound on tracks such as Golden Brown, No More Heroes, and Peaches, has died from Covid-19 aged 71.

RIP, Dave Greenfield; I loved your sheer musical genius and skills and sound - that harpsichord, that Hammond electric organ, those arpeggios. Wonderful.

It is embarrassing to attempt to count (even with the aid of an abacus) just how many times I have played (listened to) this track this evening or tonight.

But - while I had long loved the music of The Stranglers - Golden Brown allowed them to ascend to an entirely different level.....that is a seriously classy (and timeless) piece of music.....

Heard the news this morning.
Total shock. So sad he caught Covid 19.
Been a Stranglers maniac since 1977 when they released Rattus Norvegicus.
Saw them live at the Rainbow Theatre Finsbury Park London in early 80s with the Raven Tour then La Folie/Meninblack tours at Hammersmith Odeon. I was very young then so in the days of no internet we had to queue up all night to get front row tickets. Dave with JJ Burnel were the heart of the Stranglers sound. He is simply irreplaceable . RIP Dave ....not sure if you read Macrumors forums in the afterlife but thanks so much for all the genius melodic tunes, some incredibly complex. A legend right up there with the other keyboard greats. Very very sad today but we can celebrate and enjoy the huge backlog of work he created.
