Strictly Come Dancing has spawned more international spin-offs than any other programme, according to new figures.

The BBC show's format has been sold to 38 countries, industry magazine Television Business International said.

....

British programmes and formats are now responsible for more than half of the world's television output, 53%, the Producers Alliance for Cinema and Television (PACT) found.
BBC.

Why? Someone please tell me what on earth the appeal is? I'd rather drink the shower water after all of MacRumors has peed in it.

I hope you choose eternity!

I can't stand programmes like that!

A coworker of mine is a DwtS nut...watches it live, tivos it, tells me or others in the office about it the next day. At the beginning of each season, she's usually asking me who all the athletes are and what position they played, etc. I've seen the show a handful of times, but don't really care for it.

Cmon, folks, you know you watch it. I watch Dancing with the Stars with the family. It's one of the few shows you can watch with kids any more. It's fine, harmless entertainment. Ban me if you want, BV.

The TV companies make these shows (and others like it, like The X Factor et al) because they're a cash cow. How much money do you reckon they make from all the idiots who phone in to vote for Roly off Grange Hill or whoever they've dredged up for the latest series?*

It's cheap TV and they rake the cash in from it – even more so for the music-based ones where there's a product on the shelves at the end of the series.

*Please don't call after lines have closed – your vote won't count and you may still be charged.

It's the John Sergeant effect.

So potent that he's going to release a Christmas single.

The "dancing pig in Cuban heels" may just top the charts, come Christmas. John Sergeant, the marvellous and maligned political journalist who won the hearts of the nation on Strictly Come Dancing, has announced plans to release a Christmas single.

Let's Not Fight This Christmas will be released on December 8. Written by Squeeze's Chris Difford, it is a collaboration between Sergeant, 64, and Adrian Chiles and Christine Bleakley of The One Show.

Sergeant will face tough competition from the X-Factor winners, whose soppy take on Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah is a favourite for Christmas No 1. But of course Sergeant has one distinct advantage: he can't sing.

Just the gift for your loathed ones.

Sometimes I watch the auditions for X Factor (or whatever it's called), sometimes I watch whats going on in I'm a Celebrity. I always watch the first episode of BB to see who's going to be dominating the newspapers for the next couple of months.

I've never seen Strictly Come Dancing. Ever. It's the same for my friends and family. Who on earth actually does watch it?

Family programming!?! How did you explain to the kids that a former porn star won? I guess they failed to mention on the show where she got her moves from!:D
