My first Apple TV arrives next week. I’m looking forward to setting it up and discovering the best options. Not sure if I’ll be able to have individual channels such as BBC2 on the Home Screen for example or if I’ll have to go through BBC Iplayer each time.

I think Apple TV is okay. I can stream sky through it as a sky have an app for it now and I have loads of all videos that that that I have stored in the cloud and I can watch those through Apple TV

BBC iPlayer yes individual channels no, once you start watching stuff though you may see recommendations for other BBC2 shows in the ATV app which will link directly to upon selection.

One more thing to OPs original post: AppleTV the hardware and AppleTV+ the app are completely separate things... like iPhone the hardware vs. any single iPhone app.

Furthermore, AppleTV the hardware is much more than only a video streamer of local channels and stuff like Netflix or Disney+ just like iPhone is much more than only (text) Messages or only a phone. For example, it can be the ultimate music jukebox connected to probably the best speakers in your home. It can be a photo album. It can be the ideal home movie player. It can make all of your DVD or Blu Ray collection be available without having to locate and insert a disc. It plays many games. Etc. Its App Store is full of apps that are NOT video channel streamers. Explore and discover the breadth of things it can do beyond a single function.

It was originally nicknamed the iPod for your Television. Think of it like that... like an iPod Touch for your television. There is much more functionality than only streaming video apps.
