Hey guys!

I have an iP4 running 4.2.1 and i'm attempting to jailbreak it. I used Redsnow 0.9.7b5 (I don't even know if that's the right one to use) and it will get stuck on "waiting for reboot". I'm not exactly sure what's going on.

For one, I don't know which jailbreak software is the correct one to use. Would anyone have a link to a software that worked for them when they jailbroke 4.2.1? I'm using iTunes 10.1 as well.

Im really confused and I hope someone here can help.

If you need more information please ask. :)

Thanks!
-Ryan

Sounds like you got lots more to learn before you try using anything.
4.2.1 is a tethered JB.
If you know what that means.

Yes, I am aware what a tethered jailbreak is. I'm completely fine with plugging it into the computer when I reboot the iPhone.

The redsnow version you're trying to use is incompatible with your phone unless you have 4.2beta3 blobs saved from before 4.2.1 was released. If you dont then you cannot use that.
Just follow this tutorial below. You might have to restore you phone back to official 4.2.1 if your iphone wont boot up.

Alright, I'll check out the link and report my results. Thank You.

I downloaded the FW and when I selected option + restore and selected the file, it said that it was not the correct filetype and it could not be used.

So I skipped the restore and went on to redsn0w, and Made it all the way to the 3rd "waiting for reboot" loader bar where it froze.

Any suggestions?

Just plug your iphone to itunes and hit restore.
It will then restore it to the latest 4.2.1
After its done restoring and phone is activated then try running redsnow again pointing it to the iphone 4 official 4.2.1 firmware ipsw file you downloaded from the site above.
Make sure you save the file you downloaded in .ipsw format and not as .zip or it wont be recognized by redsnow.

Okay, I will try this. I'll report the results tomorrow, as I haven't got the time tonight.
