I have recently noticed a strange behavior on my Mac Pro (early08) running 10.5.2. Sometimes the cursor will get stuck as a non-spinning beachball. Everything works as normal, but the cursor is using the wrong icon. This behavior ends when I switch applications. It seems to happen at times where the beachball may have been present for a moment (I have an external harddrive that sleeps regardless of OS settings).

I have some other reasons to believe that my startup disk may be faulty, so I am thinking that this is due ot some new corruption involved with that drive. Has anyone else experienced this problem? If so, did you ever figure out a specific cause?

I have this problem with my iMac, too. It only seems to plague one of the user accounts. Anyone have a solution?

Have been experiencing the same problem for a long time now with my early 2008 MacBook Pro running 10.5.8. Annoying!
