I just got an 11 Pro Max and was prompted to update to iOS 13.1.3. I clicked install and then went about my business. After an hour it was still at a black screen with a white apple logo and a swirling graphic below. I took steps to hard boot it and when it booted it was on iOS 13. Went through the process again and it took like 5 minutes to complete the update

My question is can sitting on the apple logo for an hour damage the display/cause burn in?

Nope, you’re totally fine. Tests conducted on the iPhone X showed signs of burn in after 17 straight hours on max brightness.
