Oh the unfairness of life!

I wanted to get a Macbook and also an Ipod with the £145 cashback but the offers ends on 8th Sept and everyone is damn sure that Apple will refresh the ipods on the 9th.

is there anyway of buying at the last minute (to qualify for cashback) and exchanging the item as a refund/return etc

I think you are missing the point of the offer by Apple. This is a way for the customer to get £145 worth of ipod for free and for Apple to clear old stock of ipods.

You get a good deal - educational discount and £145.

You can always sell your free ipod on ebay. Even an old gen ipod will hold most of its value.

If you wait till the new ipods come out then the offer will end and you will be down £145

Its not unfair, its just the only way.

in order to get the discount you must cut the upc right? and you can't return without a upc i think. so you can't really get a new ipod and rebate at the same time.

Cutting the UPC isn't required anymore. It's all done online through the promo portal on Apple's site (http://www.apple.com/promo). I just took advantage of the promo this past weekend, submitted the rebate claim online right in the store.

EDIT: You will need an apple ID however, I believe.

That's just the way it is- the Back To School offer is for the current iPod Touch.

It's not much of a dilemana.

thats the point of the program....to clear inventory
