Can anyone tell me if i can connect my 17" Apple Studio display (circa 2001) (Lucite) to a standard dektop PC (Dell) . Do I need to load software onto the dell for the studio display to operate. If this will work what adaptor will I need to get ? thanks

You will probably need an ADC-DVI converter (and possibly a dvi-vga adapter, depending on your graphics card). You can buy them all over the place (try any mac store, including the mac store). You won't be able to use the USB and Firewire ports, though (I think, I've never tried it). But it's a monitor, it should work fine with any computer.
A problem you might run into is a lot of the Apple monitors don't have panel based controls, and no/minimal Windows software drivers -- so you might run into trouble in that regard.
