I’ve had a Studio Display since release day (standard screen, height adjustable stand). I’ve been VERY happy with it, with the exception of the issue with sound breaking out - which I think they will be able to fix with software. I’ve run into what I think is a pretty unique problem, and wanted to see if:
  1. Other’s have experienced it
  2. If so, any workarounds
So, I have a very nice portrait that sits behind my desk in my office. I’ve had it for a while, and it has some meaning (and wasn’t cheap). It’s a porttrait of Albert Einstein. Anyway, the Studio Display works best with Center Stage (otherwise you have to tilt the monitor too much to ensure you are in the frame appropriately). However, Center Stage gets very confused when I use it, zooming in and out constantly - every few seconds, deciding if it should include good ol’ Albert in the frame. I finally took the time to open a case with Apple, thinking the software should be intelligent enough to know if it’s a picture or a real person. I opened the case last week, and heard back today. They basically said, it’s working as designed, they have no plans to try to fix it, and I either need to turn center stage off or replace the picture. Not the type of support I‘m used to with Apple, but that’s what I got.

Has anyone else experienced this? Any suggestions for other paths to have Apple consider putting a resolution in the roadmap? I know, it’s a unique issue, but very annoying. Here is a pic of the office. Very annoying!

It’s not an iPhone camera with 3D FaceID scanning, so the 2D image of your face and Einstein are equally important as far as the software is concerned.

If you had an open window shining light into the camera, it wouldn’t work well. If the room was completely dark, the camera wouldn’t work well. This is just a variation where it’s up to you to create the right envornment for your camera to work well.

if you really need a framed picture of Einstein with reflective glass behind you showing everyone on zoom and who enters your office what is on your computer screen, I’m not going to judge. But if you really need Einstein as your backdrop for video conferencing, frame it with better non-reflective glass and buy a webcam.

Ha, yes, valid point on the need for the Einstein pic. :) I don’t disagree there. The point of the post was this - if there is a chance this can be corrected in software, I’ll live with it for now. If not possible, I need to find something else to go behind the desk. Probably not a horrible thing, as I do get comments similar to yours on having him back there.

So, I think you answered my question if you are sure it’s all 2D based, and even if so, there is no way the issue will ever be solved in software. Also, thanks for not judging, as it’s more about the pic being a gift and has some sentimental value. If I could create some home automation where the glass darkened when the camera was on so nobody saw it, that would be the perfect solution! :) I don’t like taking crap for the picture even before I got the ASD.

Again, thanks for the input.

Did you try the latest update released yesterday (15.5)? The framing is much better with Center Stage turned off. For me it's no longer necessary to tilt the screen at all.

Thank you! I hadn't, but I just applied the update. First off, the Center Stage was more stable. More importantly, the framing is much better if I need to disable Center Stage. Thanks for the reply!
