I‘m so used to the instant-on displays in my iPad and Apple Silicon MacBook that my Dell monitor drives me nuts. It takes ages to come on after the display sleeps.

Do we have any evidence to say that the new Studio Display will wake instantly? This alone would make it worth the money for me.

If it’s anything like the 24” iMac it will light up almost instantly. If your computer goes to sleep that will be a delay too. I just have my displays turn off and the computers never sleep, except for the Air when unplugged.

I'm hoping the A13 inside means that it can wake like any other Apple Silicon-powered machine, even though it's a monitor.

Sometimes my Monitors do not wake up from sleep while the MacBook is in clamshell mode (it always is!). Therefore I have grab the macbook from its vertical stand and open the lid for a second so the monitors recognize that "something" is happening and the monitors show macOS. It drives me nuts.

This is one of the biggest issues I have to be honest, its very annoying. Hope the new Studio Displays is frictionless!

Hi! I'm playing with my new Mac Studio Display now (together with my 2021 MacBook Pro 16-inch) and I can report:

  • When directly plugging into the monitor, the screen is ready for use within 4-5 seconds whether my computer is open or in clamshell mode)
  • When I connect to the monitor via my OWC Thunderbolt hub, it takes around 10 seconds, and only works when the computer is open.

How about when it's all already connected? For instance, when the display is sleeping and you tap a key on the Mac. How long does that take? On my Dell it's 5 seconds plus, just to wake the screen.

One of the reviews / launch videos I watched (can't remember which one) made mention that with the Studio Display now running iOS (you can see 15.4 in macOS display properties), it actually takes a while for the display to start up from complete power off state.

They didn't mention how long it takes, but apparently you'll see three dots animating on the screen while it's booting up. Perhaps an owner can time it just out of curiosity.

Instant. Even via my hub. Both the MacBook screen and Studio display light up exactly the same time. Which is nice.
Excellent news. I’ve taken to setting display sleep for the Dell to 15min just to avoid it sleeping. Sounds like that’s no problem with the Apple display. ?

^ Is it actually iOS? That would seem overkill for what the monitor does. Then again, the "firmware update" today was around 600Mb

Anyway, I tried a cold boot and it took about 15 seconds to go from power plugin to usable screen. And yeah there's three small pulsing dots during the load.

Question, If I plug my Logitech usb receiver into one of the monitors, is there a delay in the availability of those devices? I have two of the displays coming, and know I'll have to plug in both directly to my MacBook Pro, so I'll have accessories plugged into the displays (hard drives, keys, etc...)

Mine will not wake from sleep. I think I got a lemon as my LG 24 wakes right up, within a few seconds.

Interesting. When I open my 14” MacBook Pro with both the LG UltraFine 5K and Apple Studio Display connected, the ASD wakes up almost instantly while LG takes a few more seconds.

On a boot from full off state it takes 2-5 seconds. Waking from sleep is near instant as I rest my finger on the Touch ID button.

I only had once issue where I woke from sleep and it flashed as though had powered off, but that hasn't happened since.
