Just installed a new Apple Studio Display on my 2019 Mac Pro. ! previously had (3) 27" NEC displays connected and I am replacing one of the NEC's with this new ASD. Everything so far appears to be working perfectly and I have the ASD set and my MAIN (center) display. However, when I go to System Preferences > Displays, none of the ASD Reference Modes show up? There is not even a Presets dropdown menu like I see in all the YouTube videos? Do I need t run and installer or something?

I am running Big Sur 11.7.1

Are you able to adjust the display’s brightness via System Preferences > Displays on Big Sur, just out of interest?
Yes, I can adjust Brightness and audio Volume from keyboard just fine.

This is all I see in the Displays Panel:

This is all I see in the Displays Panel:
The fact that the display name reads as “StudioDisplay” without a space indicates you’re missing the “full” OS support for the display, such as the presets.

One other piece of weirdness has to do with scaling images in Photoshop. I just figured out what is going on (this was driving me nuts). If I open say a 1600x1200 pixel image on the ASD, it opens about 1/4 the expected physical size on the screen. If I drag that image to one of my NEC screens it retains that small size. However, if I open the same image on one of the NEC screens it opens at 4-times the physical size (what I am used to), and if I then drag that image to the ASD it retains that same larger size! Very weird. I thought I was losing my mind last night when I kept opening images of the same pixel dimensions on different monitors and they looked different with the same specs!

Hopefully Monterrey will fix this?

Just upgraded OS to latest version of Monterrey and that fixed the missing Display Presets - THANKS!

The problem with images opening at 1/4 size in Photoshop (if launching from ASD) remains. Same behavior in Affinity Photo, so something is not set right. May need to start a new post.

Glad to hear upgrading your OS fixed your missing presets!

When you were on Big Sur, did you notice any other compatibility issues besides the missing presets? My work MBP is stuck on Big Sur until I can get my permission from my I.T. department to update it and I've been thinking of getting the Studio Display.

I know some people have issues with the camera which isn't a dealbreaker for me but i'm just hoping it displays the 5k resolution without any issues. Thanks!

As it turns out the, the missing Presets was the only actual problem I experienced.

After doing further testing and research, the image scaling issue I was asking about is apparently normal behavior.

Have have not experienced any of the "buzzing" issues some report and I am in a nearly silent environment.

I have never used a webcam, so I am no expert on that, but I did try it out and it was not what I would have hoped for. I will have to buy a separate webcam if I ever get into that. The only two weak points for me are the web cam and the contracted Adobe RGB gamut - both of which I was aware of before my purchase. Overall, very happy with the purchase.

Ah that's a relief to hear. The scaling thing for Photoshop does sound annoying but hopefully it doesn't mess up your workflow too much. Thanks for your feedback and enjoy your Studio Display!
