I am trying to connect my external Thunderbolt 2 hard drive to my Studio Display and it doesn't seem like it recognizes it?
I have the Apple Thunderbolt 2 to Thunderbolt 3 adapter and when I plug it into the display a pop up says that it cannot read the accessory.

Has anyone tried plugging in an Thunderbolt 2 external hard drive into their studio display? OR know of any solutions? I don't want to run the cable directly into my MBP.

There is one Thunderbolt port on the Studio Display and the rest are only USB-C. You can't connect Thunderbolt accessories (as the message above shows) to those USB-C ports.

Then you'll need a Thunderbolt 3 or Thunderbolt 4 dock or hub. Thunderbolt 4 docks/hub have up to 3 downstream Thunderbolt ports. Use one for the display and another for the Thunderbolt 2 external hard drive. Use a benchmark such as AmorphousDiskMark to compare the speeds of the Thunderbolt 2 external hard drive when
1) connected directly to the Mac
2) connected to hub without display
3) connected to hub with display

Ahhh that makes a lot of sense. Is there an adapter to turn the Thunderbolt 2 to USB-C? So I can plug it in to the display?

No. Your Thunderbolt 2 enclosure only does Thunderbolt. USB-C of the display only does USB.

If you can take the drive out of the Thunderbolt 2 enclosure, then you could put it in a USB enclosure.
