Hi all,
I got an Apple Studio Display to go with my M2 MacBook Air. All works great except that when I plug in or unplug the laptop the screen doesn’t resize properly. For example if I’ve been using the studio display with the MacBook lid closed and then I unplug it and open the lid, the screen is all messed up and seems zoomed in like I can only seen the top left quarter. I have to close and open again for it to correct itself. Same issue going the other way when I plug in.

Is this normal? Not even my windows 10 laptop is that bad when plugging in and unplugging.

I’ve tried rebooting both the MacBook and the display but it still happens every time.

No, that doesn’t sound right and I have two ASD. Can you take a photo or quick video of it? Only thing that should be changing is the resolution so once you unplug the cable it should default to the internal displays resolution.

Here are some images. The first happens when the MacBook has been plugged into the studio display with the lid closed. I then unplug it and open the lid to use as a laptop. What I see is a kind of zoomed in desktop showing the upper left corner. I can't see the dock or the full wallpaper. Then if I close the lid and open it again it fixes itself and you can see the full desktop. Same thing happens the other way, other than the desktop only fills about a third of the ASD's screen. It seems that it's not adjusting to the screen resolution. It sounds like that's not what happens to other people. And ideas how to fix it? Thanks.

No, I don't think so. I've had a look around the settings and everything seems to be as default. I only made some minor changes, such as putting the dock on the right. The only thing I can think of is that this MacBook is being used by three different people in the family as so it's constantly switching between users and so perhaps it gets kind of confused as it's switching users and plugged in and unplugged. But I still won't expect that from pretty new hardware.
It wouldn't be too much effort to wipe the laptop and set up as new as it's synced to iCloud with a Mac mini backing everything up. But of course I'd rather not have to do that if there's an obvious fix.
Thanks for the input so far.
