I recently placed an order of the Studio Display with the tilt-adjustable stand. As the order has not shipped, I have been debating whether I should spend an extra $400 for the height adjustment.

Which would you rather?

Additional context, I currently own an iMac 27inch which sits directly on the desk.

I ordered and received the tilt adjustable display. If I could do it again, I’d get the height adjustable. The tilt only version sits too low (surprisingly lower than my 2019 27” iMac). I got caught up in all the whining about the price so felt the extra $400 was too much, but now that I’ve used the display, I can see that the extra cost (vs. LG) has gone into stunning build quality, materials and design. I now think the display is fairly priced, and would spend the $400 for the height adjustable version.

I like the height-adjustable model. The surface where I use my computer and monitor goes up to the wall. There's no way to use a clip-on stand. The height adjustment is smooth and easy. It's well-built.

I have a shelf about an inch above my 27" iMac, so if I got the height adjustable, I'd only be able to move it about 2 inches at most, so not sure I can really justify the cost. If it really feels too low, then I'll probably get something like this to sit it on: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07GX3CLKX/ref=emc_b_5_t?th=1

I second the VESA option. Getting a Wall or Desk mount arm is the best and most versatile solution. I've had a Humanscale M8 for about 10 years and have had 2 different iMacs, followed by 2 different ultrawide monitors mounted to it.

You need a height adjustable one, if you use MacBook Pro 13"/14"
it is exactly the 22cm height above the table which is the height of the screen of MacBook Pro 13"/14".

You could have bought the cheaper and slimmer M2, because the Studio Display is not that heavy :)

which cost about the same as spending the $400 with Apple for the adjustable height. Ironic ain’t it.

I bought the tilt-stand but only because I was trying to get my order in ASAP after the event to avoid those "infamous" Apple slipping shipping lead times. It arrived launch day, still having opened it as I'm waiting for my Mac Studio to arrive, but this past week I've been trying, w/ no luck, to find a VESA version. I think it's the one to own and deeply regret not buying that version, but I'll be happy w/ the tilt just fine as it's all my iMac had, so I'm use to it. But the VESA is so much more versatile and a solid full-featured stand is a fraction of what Apple's height option costs.

I have desk that doesn't move, and currently run my iMac Pro and an Ultrafine on arms with VESA, so it wa a nobrainer to get VESA for the 2 new Studio Displays, and if I ever change that setup, i'll just get tabletop VESA stands :)
