I have long been wondering; why did Apple discontinue their Studio Display line (15" and 17"). They had nearly same specs as 20" and 23" ACD's, and cost less than 1/3. My mom is getting a MacMini, and she doesn't want to pay for a 20" ACD (it costs more than the computer itself). If she could get a 17" widescreen display, it would be perfect. I hope Apple will make a new 17" display for their next generation of ACD's. Not 19", since it would be too big competition for their 20 incher, and 15" is too small. The ACD's need an upgrade urgently. 14 ms is slow compared tot todays standard. Most LCD's I see have 8 or 12 ms, while some even have 4 or 2!

Are those specs realistic (I know they aren't)?
17" widescreen (16:10) studio display:
1680x1050
600 cd/m2
800:1
4 ms
DVI
179/179 viewing angle
16.7 million colors
2xUSB + 1xFireWire400

20" widescreen (16:10) cinema display:
1920x1200
600 cd/m2
800:1
4 ms
DVI
179/179 viewing angle
16.7 million colors
2xUSB + 2xFireWire400

23" widescreen (16:10) cinema display:
2500x1600
800 cd/m2
1000:1
4 ms
Duallink DVI
179/179 viewing angle
16.7 million colors
2xUSB + 2xFireWire400

30" widescreen (16:10) cinema display:
3840x2400 (over 9 million pixels!!!!!! :eek)
800 cd/m2
1000:1
2 ms
Duallink DVI
179/179 viewing angle
3.2 billion colors
2xUSB + 2xFireWire400

All with built-in iSight and microphone, and glossy option.

I know I'm dreaming a bit/lot, but when Leopard comes, it gives possibilities for much higher resolutions. The ACD's have had the same resolution for 2 generations now. It's time to up it:D

Apple hasn't played in the low margin printer/cheap monitor arena in a long time.

Look around, you'll find one you like.

Man that stinks. I had hoped for an affordable ACD...:(
