I know many have been complaining that the magic keyboard and magic mouse still use the lightning connector and were not upgraded to USB-C.

I thought about this and it might make more sense for apple to not just update the poorly designed magic mouse with a USB-C port, but to release a newly designed mouse with USB-C; not only fixing the shortcomings of the magic mouse but something more aimed at pros, like with higher DPI etc...similar for the keyboard although it's hard to know what they would really do with it. I suspect these accessories would be called Studio Keyboard and Studio Mouse and be sold separately, with the magic keyboard and mouse only available with an iMac purchase going forward.

This would be the most logical thing for apple to do I think, what are other peoples thoughts ?

It would make sense to change the Magic Mouse design together with the USB-C upgrade. Seems like a great opportunity. And a much needed change. Not sure if there is any use in adding a high-end tier to such products, maybe as an excuse to keep selling the old models. That would be very Apple.

yeh thats what i'm thinking as well. i suspect apple will continue to chuck in the old lightning magic keyboard and mouse with the iMac because they're "free", but no longer sell them separately.

They will probably then sell the studio keyboard and studio mouse separately (both USB-C) as higher tier products designed to be paired with a mac mini or mac studio, similar to the Studio Display. I would be surprised if apple didn't go for this approach when they update the mini and studio early next year. interesting times!
