my iBook stuffit just opens and closes and on my iMac it doesn't unzip stuff until i double click the icon that needs unzipping.

you have to reinstall it. Just dpwnload the free version and reinstall and all will return to normal.

Before 10.4.1 when i would un stuff it would should a folder with no items. and now its still not fixed even after a re-install, i too have an ibook. i dont see that both of us having ibooks has anything to do with it. If stuffit is supposed ot expand a folder, the folder is empty, if its supposed ot be an app it just a plain "file" and asks what program i want to use to open it. No one else is having this problem ?

dear me I hope you didn't have to reinstall Tiger!

Looks like when I deleted Stuffit 9.0 and reinstalled it with the new version 9.0.1 it seems to be working now but it does not automatically unzip. iMac it works with the 9.0 version but again it doesn't automatically unzip...

Stuffit Expander will not require you to reinstall the OS. That's just silly. BTW, the latest version is 9.0.2, which is a Tiger-specific update. Make sure that you make Stuffit Expander the default app to open .zip files. This really should not be necessary because the OS can automatically unzip files, as well.

no im not so silly as to install tiger becuase of stuffit. I just read this:

Stuffit is still broken for me after numerous reinstalls. Downloaded installer many times. and i have done all that has been suggested, if i choose to unzip i get empty folder. If i sit there for forever and keep unzipping the same file sometimes i get a broken file. have repaired permissions and restarted. Bah.

Stuffit is working...

The files are there, but the Finder doesn't want to see them for some reason. I had the same problem. The Finder is just like any other program running on top of the Unix core, in that it will ocasionally have a bug. I noticed that when I dragged the folder into a progam like Toast to back up the folder, the files showed up. I then opened the Terminal and, using a little Unix magic, saw that the were in fact there. What I did was open the folder and then relaunched the Finder with a 3rd party program called Xupport. If you don't have that, simple hit Option-Command-Esc (all 3 at once) and relaunch the finder. I'm not sure if you need to be in the problem folder when you do so, but that's what I did, and it worked.

Hope that helps
