The OS won't handle StuffIt archives all by itself. Anyway I've never had an stability problems with StufIt.DevilsRejection said:

do what misterme says..... the latest version is very stable... i think it is 10.0.2...
i was having the same problem and the new version fixed all crashing issues...
Generally, 10.0.2 is stable, but it does seem to have problems, apparently, with some RAR files. It either crashes or is unable to expand the archive.
For those sort of occasions, I keep this as a backup. It's never once failed to extract an RAR archive that Stuffit otherwise just couldn't handle.
