new ipod user w/ ipod touch

when i try to sync my ipod to itunes on my laptop i get a nag screen for apple trying to sell me some new useless s/w apps for my ipod. i usually click the "no thanks" button and then i get to see the contents of my ipod.

today when i click the "no thanks" button i just get a continue button that seems to assume i want to buy this crap and then sends me to the itunes store. i can't get to the contents of my ipod. i have tried unplugging and replugging my ipod and each time i get the same results.

can anyone tell me how to return to the previous behavior or EVEN BETTER how to banish that stupid nag screen permanently? thanks.
