stupid iTunes question

For some reason when I insert a blank CD into my disc drive, it does not appear in iTunes (7.1.1). It used to appear under removable media I believe, but changing around things has stopped iTunes from recognizing the blank CD.
How can I get the blank cd to appear in itunes so i can drag and drop songs to burn onto it!

I can't say I've every tried that method, I just make a playlist of the songs I want to burn, select the playlist, then click the burn button in itunes.

I do this as well. I can't remember any version of iTunes ever adding a blank CD under the removable media.
