stupid power supply question

A friend gave me a powermac g4 with a broken power supply. I'd like to fix it, but I'm on a pretty tight budget, and a new power supply costs in the neighborhood of $250. Is there a reason why I couldn't get a comparable one from a different vendor for half that? Thank you.
