Stupid Question #98: What is $RECYCLE.BIN ?

I have searched google and here and only get generic references or links to Windows.

I was trying out the WhatSize app to see where all my space is going when I noticed 25gb used in $RECYCLE.BIN on my desktop.

My Trashcan is empty.

Hmm ... while typing this I am just wondering if this is a throwback to a Parallels/Windows installation?


Can someone confirm this is just a leftover from Windows and nothing to do with OSX?

It occurred when you deleted something in windows and didn't empty the trash can. Just delete the file.
