Well, probably stupid anyway, just wanted to make sure...

Looking to do a complete erase and the to re-install all software and OSX on a Power Mac G5, want a fresh start really after years of building up needless crap in random places that take up memory room but would be a complete headache to try and filter out...

Looking at Disc Utility, and the erase option, it shows 2 files on the left hand side...

152.7 GB Maxtor 6-----

Then underneath, as a sub option I guess it has 'Macintosh HD'

Here comes the stupid part, are these the same thing? Which one should I erase? Both?

Thanks lol :)

The maxtor bit is the name of the manufacturer of the HDD, so basically the people who made it, Macintosh HD is the name apple have given it, basically you can rename the HDD to anything, but the maxtor bit will remain the same.

Its like naming your mac, its still a mac, but you may call is dave.

So yes, they are the same thing

:apple:Mike

Thanks for clearing it up. Feel a bit daft lol, but didn't want to make an obvious mistake with this.
