I need to know how the application data is stored?

Take, for instance, a Checkbook application.

We have 2 iPhones, about to be 3 iPhones, that share one iTunes account.

I have the Checkbook app on my 3G and I will be taking my son's new 3GS from him once he upgrades and giving him my 3G. (Mean Dad I realize).

Obviously, I don't want to lose my Checkbook data.

So is it stored by the phone Serial Number, or the phone name, or by some other means?

Thanks in advance..

I believe ALL of that information is stored in the application backup.. So when you plug your phone into iTunes and it does a long backup, it is storig the applications and all of their data.. there is another thread above yours about this too.

Do you have a link to the other thread? I can't seem to find it.

The reason I am asking is I am going to be swapping iPhones with my son after his line gets upgraded to the 3GS.

So when I put said Checkbook app on to my new phone, I want to ensure the data comes with it.

Anyone else have any knowledge on this?

The other thread isn't helping me answer it either.

Thanks..

You have the answer.. the data is stored in the backup.. the link to the thread is how to move that data from one phone to another.. period. What else do you need?

Backup with iTunes, restore to new iPhone.

Application data is stored in the backup and can be restore onto a new phone.

What would the point of backups and restores be if this weren't possible?
