Stupid Question - Old MacBook + 4K TV

Got kind of a dumb question: I have a 2012 MBP 13" (https://support.apple.com/kb/sp649?locale=en_US). It does NOT support 4K video output per Apple's specs.

I'm getting a 4K TV soon, does this mean I cannot hook-up my MBP to my TV at all (i.e. it won't recognize the TV as an external display)?

You can connect it fine, you just won't get full resolution on the TV.
