I apologize if this topic has already been addressed, but I couldn't find it in the first few pages...

I don't like this new "Resume" feature that they've implemented.

For example, if I'm viewing a .pdf file, I close Preview from the dock, and it closes the window. And then when I double click on another .pdf file later, it opens the file, plus opens the last file that I had open!!

I can see how this might be nice if Safari crashes or something, but is there any way to turn it off? I didn't find it in the settings.

I am using cmd-w right before cmd-q. Not sure if I will leave it or turn it off. I could see where it would be helpful but I also think it may be a pain. Not sure yet.

The top rated comment was very useful. Allows you to keep the Resume feature but without the annoyance.

Hate the new resume feature and how you end up with a bunch of old windows/tabs open when you launch Safari, QuickTime, or any app that uses Lion's new resume feature?

Well a simple three button keyboard shortcut will save you all the trouble:

⌥ + ⌘ + Q
(thats Option + Command + Q)

Simply press these keys when you want to quit an app and the next time you open it, the last opened windows/tabs will not be resumed and you will start with a fresh app.

I was bothered by this as well, so I turned off the 'resume' feature in general settings within 'System Preferences'. It is great to know that Option-Command-Q does the trick as well. Thanks!
